The Aylesbury Hearts travelled to Great Missed for a pre season game vs Penn and Tylers Green FC, securing story after a comprehensive performance. Hearts started the game well aiming to show good positional discipline and progress the ball forwards with speed, not getting caught at the back as we did last week showing better defensive awareness in the early stages.
Hearts managed to control majority of the possession and were looking dangerous down the flanks, before miscommunication at the back and a couple os poor decisions left an unmissable goal for the opposition to take the lead against the run of play. Hearts continued to push forwards and played several dangerous balls into the final third, nearly getting on the end of a few, only just missing.
Hearts were denied what looked like a certain penalty after great energy and pressing in the forward line meant a Hearts player outwitted the goalkeeper, robbing him of the ball and was then brought down just before shooting into an unguarded net. penalty was somehow not given. After several Hearts set pieces and mountain pressure, Hearts got their breakthrough in timely manner just before half time, after a corner kick split out into the edge of the 18 yard box and wonderfully booked lobbed back in to find the back of the net. Hearts came out to the second half with confidence picking up from where they left off, scoring a goal early to go 2-1 up. After excellent pressing in the final third forced a mistake from P& TG defender and left an easy finish for a Hearts attacker.
Hearts continued to mount pressure outclassing a young and inexperienced side and put themselves further ahead after a great work from an attacker to skilfully slide into the penalty area where he was borough down for a penalty. The penalty was then converted after the initial shot was saved, the penalty taker following up to make no mistake on the rebound. Hearts then controlled the game defending well and denying the opposition any clear cut chances to get back into the game. A hearts corner was then dispatched with a brilliant header but was controversially ruled out for foul play.
After some changes in players and positions, the Hearts capped off a solid performance with a moment of individual brilliance…a player cutting in from the right showing skills, twisting and turning before an unstoppable finish into the far top corner. Overall thoroughly deserved victory against a young energetic side.
I think we trumped them in terms of our physicality, experience, togetherness and gameplay. We are starting to show better positional awareness but still a long was on the journey. Well done to all players involved for your efforts and impressive performance today.
